Introduction
Avalonia themes and controls that reproduce the look and motion of GPUI Kit components, verified pixel by pixel against GPUI Kit's own renders.
Avalonia UIKit brings the look of GPUI Kit, the component library of Longbridge's GPUI apps, to Avalonia. It is two things:
GpuiTheme, aStylestheme for Avalonia's own controls:Button,TextBox,ComboBox,TabControl,Calendar,ListBox,TreeView,TableView,Menu,ToolTipand the rest. The theme replaces each control'sControlTheme, so it changes the colors, the padding, the outlines, the inner layout, the states and the animations, not just the palette.- A few new controls in the
gpui:namespace for the small GPUI Kit components Avalonia has no counterpart for:Badge,TagLabel,Alert,Avatar,Breadcrumb,Kbd,Clipboard,Rating,EmptyState,Skeleton,StatusBar,DescriptionList,Stepper,Form,HoverCard,ShimmerText,Marker,BubbleandMessage.
Every component is checked against reference data that GPUI Kit itself rendered: Light and Dark, each variant, size and state, and the motion frame by frame. The baseline is pinned (GPUI Kit 2c5162f, Avalonia 12.1.3), and the color tokens are generated from the theme GPUI Kit resolves, including the colors its components derive while painting.
The library is built for NativeAOT. It uses compiled bindings only and bans reflection at build time, and a NativeAOT smoke test renders every control in both themes on each change.
What it is not
The library ports looks, not systems. GPUI Kit components that need a modal, search, docking, editing or charting mechanism of their own are out of scope: Dialog and AlertDialog, OtpInput, Command, Dock, Settings, Questionnaire, Editor, TextView and Markdown, Chart, Plot, Speech, Attachment and MessageScroller.
Where a page says a component is partial, the theme covers the documented part of the Avalonia control and nothing beyond it. The remaining GPUI Kit features are listed on each page under "Not covered"; there is no plan to rebuild them on top of Avalonia.
Where to go next
- Installation: add the package and the theme to
App.axaml. - Theming: light and dark, color tokens, fonts, sizes and variants.
- Icons: the bundled Lucide icons.
- Compatibility: every component, its Avalonia control and how far the port goes.
- Components: the demos, with their XAML.
